Growing up as my mother’s doll baby, I have been draped in the finest fabrics. I have been regaled with stories about the hours it took my mother to press out the ruffles on my underwear and the Christian Dior dress I wore to someone’s wedding. As a precocious five-year-old I proclaimed to my mother that I would only were dresses. Then as a rebellious second grader I banished my dresses in hopes to fit in my early 1990’s leggings (not a great idea).
Fashion has always been part of my life, but it’s always come with restraints. Finding something to work when you come from a middle to low income family is a challenge, especially when you aren’t the perfect size six. Though it has its peaks and valleys when you through that outfit together and find it came under $30 that’s a tremendous feeling.
Affordable fashion suffers from celebrities that are idolized for wearing jeans that cost $5,000, and the bling bling industry, but it has also been inspired. There are so many stores and shows that can help the average fashionista or proper lad, find that winning look with out having to empty the pocketbook.
